Simon goes to College

The Simon mascot was recently spotted at the Brigham Young University bookstore. Microbiology for Cleaning Workers: SIMPLIFIED is being used this semester as a textbook in the BYU facilities healthcare management class.

The book which is coauthored by John Walker and Jeff Campbell, PhD, covers the history of diseases and microbiology, government regulations related to healthcare. It also covers what a cleaning worker needs to know about microbiology.

Pandemic planning, cross-contamination, fomites, nosocomial infections and pathogenic microorganisms are all topics that need to be familiar to cleaning workers in the twenty-first century. The book’s easy to understand format makes learning technical concepts easier. “Our facility management students need to be grounded in both the microbiology issues in facilities and how-to information that is accessible to custodial workers with varying backgrounds” said Dr. Campbell. “The book looks fun but has a serious side which includes the best collection of scientific material for cleaning workers that I’ve ever seen between two covers.”
