Simon Institute

In an industry wrought with abuses towards individuals, weak business practices and lacking environmental stewardship, the Simon Institute deems it their duty to provide new means to challenge, change and improve cleaning of the indoor environment.

These changes must focus on the management and leadership in all aspects of this industry so that the processes by which we observe, plan, produce, perform and implement will be in harmony with the human environment, both built and natural.

History

In 2004, key (OS1) Users Group members decided that meeting once a year at the (OS1) Users Symposium, though important, was not enough. They determined that a group of the most dedicated (OS1) organizations needed to work throughout the year on projects that improve the (OS1) program and support the (OS1) process. Thus, the Simon Institute, formerly the (OS1) Power Users, was formed. It was decided that this group would meet regularly throughout the year and work on projects.

Purpose

Aiding in the development of nationally recognized educational materials and certification programs to guide the processes used to carry out scientific cleaning activities. We gathering scientific data from (OS1) organizations to be used for benchmarking best practices in cleaning organizations. In addition, it works to grow the Janitor University curriculum and (OS1) Users Symposium. Developing the core of leaders within the cleaning industry, the Simon Institute was formed to designate those who are willing to teach and share best practices, innovations, benchmarking activities and trends. We work with like minded manufacturers and suppliers that are willing to be innovative pioneers in addressing the concerns of this industry.
